Material & Manufacture
Hollow-foot amphora. Rounded shoulders, body tapering to a hollow tubular base with shallow horizontal grooves on the exterior surface, long wide conical neck with multiple horizontal ridges that tapers to a narrow turned-over rim with a rounded edge and ridge at its base, heavy handle (one preserved) with a groove down the center, subrectangular in section, arches high and sharply above the rim and down to the shoulder with a wide attachment.
Dark red/orange coarse clay withshiny grits, which might be micaceous, some mottling and a grey core.
No slip. Multiple horizontal ridges on the neck, body and foot formed on the wheel.
Wheelmade. Hollow-foot is an added tube of clay placed around and extending below the slightly pointed toe of the transport amphora (junction visible). Purpose and function unclear.
