DescriptionTransport amphora/hollow foot jug very small strap handle, one handle first appears in late 1st century BC, earliest examples of 2 handled in late 2nd century AD complex at Ephesos. Sometimes has tapering solid foot. Red/orange clay, micaceous grits.
Material & Manufacture
Hollow-foot one-handled jar/amphora. Round shoulders, slender ovoid body tapering to an elongated narrow solid toe/foot inside an added collar-like short ridge of clay which is hollow and almost egg-cup like in shape, short slender cylindrical neck tapering slightly to the rim which is flattened on top with an almost T-shaped profile; very small/short vertically placed arched handle, rectangular (concave) in section, from the mid-neck to shoulder.
Red/orange clay with shiny, perhaps micaceous grits.
No slip. Broad shallow regular ribbing covers most of the vessel.
Wheelmade, in 2 pieces.
