Bag-shaped body rounding to a slightly pointed base, short flaring shoulder with a pronounced carination with associated ridge, another minor ridge on the body at the level of the handle attachments, short neck, flattened incurving rim; 2 opposing small vertical handles, v-shaped subrectangular in section, from the carination ridge to high on the body.
Orange clay (5YR 6/6 reddish yellow) with white, fine black and red inclusions.
No slip. Bichrome decoration in what now appears to be matte black and dark red paint: neck, rim and inside neck in varying thicknesses of red paint, 2 thin black encircling bands just below rim on body, followed by a medium red band at the carination edge, wide red band at midbody with 2 thin black bands bordering its lower edge, another wide red band at the widest part of the body where it starts to taper to the base. There may have been other thin bordering black bands (see Bikai comparable jar cited below) which are no longer visible. Five diagonally placed black brushstrokes, dipnta, one with a drip on the end, located between the body ridge and the wide red band.
Wheelmade. Body wet-smoothed. Handle attachments widened by the addition of extra clay.
