Cypriot Plain White Ware transport amphora. Piriform body, long rounded shoulder extends down onto body (change of plane ca. 4 cm. down), tapering to a hollow base which terminates in a slight ridge and then flares slightly until the break, tall cylindrical neck, narrower at the shoulder junction and flaring slightly to below the handle attachments, then narrowing again to the ring-shaped or rolled rim, which is underscored at the neck junction; opposed vertical handles with a rounded diamond-shaped section, from a short distance below the rim to mid-shoulder, slight s-curve to the top of the handle.
Grey beige clay with orange tinge, white and black inclusions.
No white slip; light colored surface due to reduction during firing. Incised encircling line or narrow groove approximately 2/3 of the way down the neck, for decorative purposes? Unstamped.
Wheelmade. Change of plane on body emphasized by wet smoothing of the surface. Lower handle attachments are slightly waisted. Pronounced wheel-turning? ribbing on the inside of the neck.
