Label TextA number of panels in the North Palace of Ashurbanipal were dedicated to the royal privilege of hunting lions. The two panels here originally formed part of one long scene, the lowest of three registers. Dead lions are brought in from the left, to the accompaniment of musicians. The tall stand holds incense. Nearby are offerings on a table, including a joint of meat. The king pours a libation of wine over the bodies of four lions. Attendants behind him carry his weapons, fan him, and attend to the royal horses.
